Disney World for Grown-Ups 2001
by W. Blake Gray

When we were kids, Walt Disney World was the Magic Kingdom, and the name was apt. No matter how transparent the fakery, we loved everything anyway.

But we've outgrown Fantasyland and the Jungle Cruise. Fortunately, so has Disney World. This is not your parents' "We drove across the country in a station wagon with no a/c so you could have this character breakfast, so shut up and start having fun" vacation anymore.

Nowadays, Disney World in Orlando is more than just the best of Disney's many international theme parks — for grown-ups, it's better than any theme park, anywhere. The huge Disney World complex offers adults, even without kids, so many recreation options that you couldn't possibly do them all in a week. World-class golf and tennis. Good bass fishing. Excellent spas. Outstanding food.

All in all, Disney World has become an adult vacation complex on par with any Club Med. No wonder so many grown-ups choose to get married or have honeymoons here.

We're not suggesting that you leave the kids with their grandparents and jet off to Disney World by yourselves. Not strongly, anyway, because you'd never get away with it, no matter how many cool souvenirs you bring back.

But since Disney is all about fantasy, let's just imagine that you could. The stories in this online guide will tell you how to make the most of your time — not your kids' — at Disney World.

Because after all, we may have grown up on the outside, but inside, if there was no line and nobody watching, wouldn't you like to go through the Haunted Mansion again? Don't worry, we won't tell.
